2 Corrections Facility Escapees Caught in Dover
Investigators said the women planned to meet a pickup near Walmart and head to Florida, and authorities later found them in a crawlspace.
On Tuesday evening, U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott announced Hope Skerrett and Kerriah Ohler were apprehended in Dover after escaping the Stark Regional Community Correction Center on Monday, Oct. 12.
The two inmates escaped by climbing through the facility's roof before fleeing into the adjacent Fairhope Nature Preserve; staff discovered their absence while closing the outdoor area for the night.
Police reports indicate the women allegedly planned to meet an accomplice near a Walmart on US62 to travel to Florida, while Canton police are investigating Ohler's potential inappropriate relationship with a terminated employee.
Following their capture, Skerrett and Ohler were transported to the Stark County jail to face third-degree felony escape charges filed on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Skerrett had been serving time for a breaking-and-entering conviction, while Ohler was incarcerated for a fourth-degree felony failure-to-comply offense; Skerrett had been at the center for 54 days, while Ohler had been there for less than 30 days.
