Two weeks of clashes in a southern Sudan region kill dozens, a local medical group says
The Sudan Doctors Network said poor communications made the toll hard to verify and warned the number is likely higher as clashes continue.
The Sudan Doctors Network reported Wednesday that fighting in Kauda, South Kordofan, killed over 61 people, including nine children and five women, during the past two weeks.
Forces linked to the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North , commanded by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu, clashed with the Otoro tribe while aligning with the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group.
Survivors report indiscriminate targeting around Kauda, while the doctors group warned of "systematic burning" and looting as civilians face attacks with no safe corridors for evacuating wounded or delivering aid.
In Dilling, RSF artillery shelling on Tuesday killed seven people and wounded 17; Umm Bakhita Hospital director Omran Teia stated that civilians were targeted by both the paramilitary and SPLM-N.
Sudan's broader conflict has killed at least 59,000 people and displaced 13 million, though Sudan Doctors Network spokesperson Mohamed Elsheikh warned that poor communication suggests the true toll is likely higher.
