2 Killed in Fire that Destroyed Mississippi Senior Living Center
The assisted living center housed more than 100 residents, and state and local officials are investigating the cause.
A fire at Brookdale Senior Living in Clinton, Mississippi, killed two residents on Wednesday just after 5 p.m., Clinton Mayor Will Purdie confirmed Thursday. The facility housed more than 100 people.
Located about 10 miles northwest of Jackson, the senior living center sustained severe damage as much of the building was destroyed by the blaze. Officials are investigating the fire's cause.
Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard confirmed the deaths of an 82-year-old man and an 81-year-old woman, though their names have not been released. Authorities searched the site throughout the night.
Gov. Tate Reeves requested prayers for those affected, while Mayor Purdie praised the community's response. "As they always do in times of adversity, our citizens came together at a moment's notice to help their friends and neighbors," Purdie said.
Brookdale expressed devastation over the incident, stating, "We are devastated by the fire at our Clinton community." The company said its hearts are with residents, families, and associates during this difficult time.
