Minnesota Law Enforcement Leaders Announce Plan to Curb Gang Violence
The effort will use Minnesota’s Crime Gun Intelligence Center to share evidence, build cases and stop retaliation after a string of metro shootings.
On Monday, more than 40 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies announced a new partnership in Blaine, Minnesota, to address gang and group violence across the Twin Cities metro area.
Investigators linked a recent string of shootings across the Twin Cities to Somali youth gangs, with violent incidents occurring in Edina, Eden Prairie, and Bloomington prompting the coordinated response.
Under Minnesota's Crime Gun Intelligence Center, agencies will coordinate information sharing and direction to benefit gang-related investigations, with leadership stating the goal is to 'coordinate, deconflict, provide direction and facilitate information sharing.'
Federal partners, including the ATF and FBI, will focus on the most dangerous individuals and pursue federal cases, including RICO prosecutions when appropriate, while county-based quick reaction teams enable rapid response.
Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt emphasized that individual actions do not define the entire community, urging the public to end 'unnecessary stereotyping of an entire community' as investigations proceed.
