The municipality of Twenterand has decided against establishing an asylum seekers' centre (AZC) for the time being. According to Mayor Gerrit Jan Gorter, the lack of public support played a significant role in the decision to enter into a reception agreement with the neighboring municipality of Almelo. Instead of accommodating asylum seekers itself, Twenterand will take over status holders from Almelo in the coming years, reports Oost.
