TV legend says he’s ‘too old’ for iconic ITV role but admits he would love to return
The 73-year-old entertainer said he would consider a comeback only if the ITV game show returns, and suggested comedian Jason Manford as a successor.
73-Year-Old entertainer Les Dennis says he is unlikely to host Family Fortunes again, believing he is "too old" for the role despite willingness to consider a revival.
Dennis fronted the popular ITV game show for 15 years before departing in 2002 after being offered a 98 per cent pay cut when producers moved it from primetime to daytime.
Following his departure, Dennis joined Celebrity Big Brother in 2002 seeking a career reboot, but noted there was no fee and the phone "wasn't ringing" afterward.
The show's most recent host, Gino D'Acampo, was dropped by ITV following allegations of inappropriate behaviour, which he "categorically denies," and the rebooted version was shelved in February 2025.
Dennis suggested comedian Jason Manford as a potential replacement and reflected that people still approach him to perform the show's signature noise, keeping it central to his public identity.
