Tunisian opposition leader Ghannouchi starts a three-day hunger strike in prison
- Rached Ghannouchi, a jailed Tunisian opposition leader, is showing support for imprisoned opposition figures by undertaking a three-day hunger strike. Ghannouchi was sentenced to a year in jail on charges of incitement and plotting against state security.
- Ghannouchi's Ennahda party leader has confirmed the three-day action, stating that it aims to protest against unjust imprisonment of fellow opposition figures who argue politically motivated imprisonment.
- Before the 2011 revolution, Ghannouchi was a political prisoner and exile. He served as parliament speaker and led the biggest party in the legislature until President Kais Saied disbanded it with tanks in 2021.
