Trumps to erect Australia’s tallest building

The A$1.5 billion Trump International Hotel & Tower will feature 285 hotel rooms, 272 luxury residences, and a private beach club, aiming to boost Gold Coast tourism.

  • Earlier this month Altus Property Group signed an agreement to build a $1.5 billion Trump Tower on the Gold Coast, Altus chief executive David Young said he signed the deal with the Trump Organization at Mar-a-Lago on February 14.
  • The site has been vacant for more than a decade, with council approval for an 89-storey tower, after Mr Young first floated the idea nearly two decades ago.
  • The plan calls for a 91-storey tower about 335 metres tall, including a 285-room hotel, 272 residences, retail, and a private beach club, Altus said.
  • Acting Mayor Mark Hammel said Altus will need to submit a new formal development application before construction start this year, and Cr Hammel added, `We welcome investment in the city, it shows confidence in our city and ultimately creates jobs`.
  • Following the Trump brand model, the project would follow the same 'Trump design manual' used in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, while a competing 393-metre, 101-storey tower is proposed near Southport.
