Trump administration gives guidance on federal hiring freeze
Congressional lawmakers expressed concern that President Donald Trump's federal hiring freeze could complicate efforts to fill critical health care positions at Veterans Affairs medical centers.
VA Secretary nominee Doug Collins stated he is optimistic the hiring freeze will not adversely impact veterans' care.
The hiring freeze affects existing vacant posts and potential new federal jobs, but over 300,000 health care positions at VA have been exempted.
Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Jerry Moran praised the administration for exempting essential VA job posts, which represent about two-thirds of the current workforce.
