Trump says Oval Office to become national monument
Trump said the move will block future changes to the rooms after he added gold accents, portraits and other decor.
On Nov 5, President Donald Trump signed a proclamation declaring the Oval Office and White House Cabinet Room national monuments, preventing future occupants from altering his design choices.
Since returning to the White House, Trump has overseen numerous design changes including portraits, a copy of the Declaration of Independence, and golden accents throughout his workspace.
"We're making it a national monument," Trump told reporters, warning that future leaders might otherwise remodel the Oval Office into a square shape rather than preserve his design.
Voters dissatisfied with economic policies threw dozens of Republicans out of office two days before the proclamation, delivering control of Congress to the Democrats.
