Trump to attend G7 summit in France, White House official says
Axios said Trump will use the summit to press U.S. priorities on trade, artificial intelligence and supply chains, with no signed deals expected.
President Donald Trump will attend the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France, from June 15–17, Axios reported, planning to discuss artificial intelligence, trade, and crime while building consensus rather than securing signed deals.
Trump intends to promote U.S. exports, reduce regulatory barriers, and increase energy production, while addressing drug smuggling and illegal immigration at the gathering.
At a Tuesday meeting of G7 finance ministers in Paris, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged members to impose sanctions against "Iranian terrorism" and "crack down on the illicit finance that is fueling the Iranian war machine."
Though Iran remains on the agenda, Trump intends to link U.S. aid with trade that is "mutually beneficial for both investor and recipient nations," prioritizing business cooperation over signed agreements.
Trump will celebrate his 80th birthday on June 14, one day before the summit begins, though officials warn lingering rancor could persist despite efforts to build consensus.
