‘Andy Is Getting It Done’, Says Trump as He Claims UK ‘Opening up North Sea Oil’
Trump said the approval will make the UK “very wealthy” as ministers said Jackdaw could supply 1.6% of projected gas demand.
On Friday, Donald Trump claimed he discussed North Sea oil with Prime Minister Andy Burnham, appearing to confuse the recent approval of gas drilling at the Jackdaw field with oil extraction.
Burnham's government approved drilling at the Jackdaw field earlier this week to help heat millions of homes, with officials also announcing a new energy wealth fund.
Located 150 miles east of Aberdeen, the Jackdaw field is operated by Adura, a joint venture between Shell and Equinor, and could meet 1.6% of projected national gas demand over 11 years.
Environmental campaigners say the decision makes "no meaningful difference" to UK energy security, while a decision remains pending regarding the Rosebank oil and gas field off the coast of Shetland.
Trump stated "Andy is getting it done" and urged the UK to go "full blast" on extraction, contrasting this approach with "the previous man," Starmer, whom he claimed failed to secure similar results.
