El-Sayed backs Trump plan to end Israel aid: ‘I agree with him on that’
El-Sayed said he would work with Trump to end the $4 billion in annual U.S. assistance, calling continued military subsidies wrong.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump announced plans to end approximately $4 billion in annual United States military aid to Israel by the end of 2026, citing an earlier agreement with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Michigan Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed welcomed the decision during an appearance on Thursday's Morning Joe, stating, "I think the president is actually right on this policy."
El-Sayed, the first Muslim American elected to the Senate, called for halting American arms sales to Israel, arguing taxpayer dollars should not fund actions he described as "genocide" and "apartheid" in Gaza and the West Bank.
The Democrat rejected claims that criticizing Israel constitutes antisemitism, emphasizing the need to separate Judaism from Israeli government policies while affirming commitment to Jewish children's safety.
El-Sayed advocated for a broader review of military support for Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Pakistan, arguing American taxpayer dollars should be prioritized for domestic needs instead.
