- Boasberg authorized secret subpoenas and nondisclosure orders in the Arctic Frost investigation, and in 2023 Special Counsel Jack Smith sought subpoenas for lawmakers' phone records with gag orders barring phone companies from notifying members.
- The subpoenas targeted call metadata rather than call contents, the resolution says, with Verizon complying and AT&T resisting subpoenas seeking records showing when and to whom calls were placed.
- After introduction, the articles go to the GOP-controlled House Judiciary Committee, and impeachment would require a House majority and a two-thirds Senate conviction with Chief Justice John Roberts presiding, backed by 11 Republican cosponsors including Reps. Eli Crane and Byron Donalds.
- Judge James Boasberg, an Obama appointee and a prominent judicial adversary to President Donald Trump, previously blocked Mr. Trump's deportation plans earlier this year and handled cases later reviewed by the Supreme Court.
