Trump Says US Looking ‘Closely’ at Report Nvidia CEO Is Target of China Spy Plot
Trump voiced support for Nvidia chief Jensen Huang and said the United States is checking the alleged spy plot very closely.
On Saturday, President Donald Trump voiced support for Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at his Florida residence, calling him a "brilliant" executive after reports emerged of a Chinese spy plot targeting him.
The New York Times reported Thursday that U.S. intelligence concluded a Chinese executive linked to a Singapore-based data center company funneled information to Beijing after interacting with Huang.
Trump stated the United States is looking "very closely" at the issue, telling reporters "We're going to check it out very closely" while emphasizing the need to protect "brilliant people."
On retaining Huang as an advisor, Trump said he would like to keep him "unless we find out something to the contrary," adding he has "always found Jensen Huang to be very above board."
China has dismissed the espionage allegations as "groundless speculation," while Beijing accelerates semiconductor development in a sector where Huang has previously advocated for Nvidia's chips.
The U.S. president expressed his support for the leader of a major technology firm after revelations of possible espionage. The Asian giant rejected the accusations, while the president assured that he will investigate the case thoroughly.
