On Friday, Tropical Storm Maysak made landfall in Hainan, China, causing heavy rain and widespread travel disruptions across the island province.
Maysak struck the island's southwestern coast around 6:20 p.m., with maximum winds near its center reaching 23 m/s, creating hazardous conditions.
Sanya Phoenix International Airport suspended operations from 5 p.m. after 92 flights were canceled, while high-speed rail and Qiongzhou Strait ferry services halted for one to two days.
Authorities urged stepped-up monitoring and evacuations, describing flood prevention tasks as "severe and complex." The National Meteorological Center warned some areas could see up to 350 mm rainfall within 24 hours.
Torrential rain is expected to impact Hainan as well as Guangdong, Guizhou, and Hunan provinces and the Guangxi region. Residents across these areas remain on alert as the system continues its path.
