Trinity Rodman Supports Ben Shelton Amid Soccer Loss
Rodman made a 246-mile trip after starting for the Spirit and was shown on the ABC broadcast as Shelton lost in four sets.
On Sunday, September 13, 2026, Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman traveled 246 miles from Washington, D.C., to New York City to support boyfriend Ben Shelton in his first US Open final.
Rodman played in the Spirit's 3-0 loss to Boston Legacy FC before departing for Queens; Shelton's match against Alexander Zverev began just one hour after her kickoff in the nation's capital.
Zverev defeated Shelton in four sets, 6-3, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2, securing his second career major; the match lasted over three and a half hours, allowing Rodman to arrive for the trophy ceremony.
During the trophy ceremony, Zverev joked with Rodman, saying, "You're the lucky charm... not today, but usually." Rodman, the highest-paid player in women's soccer, smiled during the exchange.
Shelton praised his supporters, stating, "To my squad over here in this corner, every one of you guys is so special in your own way." Rodman clapped and wiped tears during his remarks.
