Trial of German Steakhouse Heiress that Sparked a Huge Spy Scandal - The Ghana Report
Prosecutors say Christina Block and others arranged the abduction of two children in a custody fight, while investigators linked the case to espionage allegations against August Hanning.
- The trial of Christina Block is on hold after investigators discovered evidence leading to the arrest of former Germany spy chief August Hanning for treason and espionage this month.
- Years of legal battles between Christina and Stephan Hensel over custody preceded the alleged violent abduction of two children from Denmark during New Year celebrations, which prosecutors claim she organized.
- An Israeli security firm allegedly carried out the abduction, beating Hensel and dragging the children into a car, while Andreas Costard and others face charges of unlawful detention and grievous bodily harm.
- Hanning allegedly arranged security staff for an earlier 2022 attempt to abduct the children from Denmark, establishing the former spy chief's connection to the case, prosecutors say.
- Postponements have stalled the trial against Block for two weeks, adding to 15 months of delays, as the latest issue involves Stephan Hensel's new wife failing to appear as a witness.
