Peru never ceases to tremble! The beginning of 2026 was marked by several earthquakes recorded in different parts of the country, according to the Peruvian Geophysical Institute (PGI) on Sunday, January 4 through its official channels. Telluric movements generated concern among the population, especially to occur in the first days of the year. It knows where they have been and their magnitude in this note.
On Monday, January 5, 2026, a seismic movement affected the center-south of the country with epicenter in the province of Cañete, in the district of Chilca. The Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) reported that the tremor occurred at 08:34 in the morning and had a magnitude of 3.7 on the Richter scale, being perceived slightly in nearby areas without material or personal damage being reported so far.
