‘Tragic Accident’: 2 Women, Toddler Found Dead in Car Pulled From Rhode Island River
Investigators say the crash was a tragic accident with no signs of foul play, and the vehicle was in proper working order.
On Monday, June 29, 2026, rescue teams recovered a vehicle submerged in the Seekonk River in Pawtucket, confirming three family members dead after nearly 20 hours trapped inside.
Josue Gomez reported his wife, Floridalma Arceno, daughter, Linora Sucely Gomez, and granddaughter, Ana Sofia Garcia Gomez, died during a driving lesson when the vehicle failed to brake and plunged into the river.
A witness heard an explosion as the vehicle entered the water, Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves noted; investigators found no indications of foul play and the vehicle appeared to be in proper working order.
Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien called the incident a 'heartbreaking tragedy,' stating, 'We will stand with this family in the days and weeks ahead, offering our support however we can.'
While the investigation continues, the community has established a GoFundMe page to support the grieving family, reflecting the broader impact of the loss on Pawtucket residents and first responders.
