An 11-year-old boy died after a fall with his father on the ascent of Mount Elbrouz in Russia, reports Tass agency. The father, injured, was rescued by helicopter.
An 11-year-old child from Stavropol province died during a climb to Elbrus, along with his 40-year-old father, as reported by the UK Investigation Department for Cabardino-Balkaria, which began a pre-trial investigation into the incident.
The child and his father wanted to reach the summit of 5,642 meters above sea level. They managed to do so, but already on the way back they both fell down from the eastern slope of the mountain. The 11-year-old died on the spot, and the man suffered numerous fractures, including ribs and knees.
