Sam Welsford claimed the first ochre jersey of the Tour Down Under on a gorgeous first stage through the Adelaide Hills, as his future prospects continued to improve.

The opening stage of the 25th Tour of Australia was won by Sam Welsford in a sprint, just like last year. This is the 10th victory in the career of the 29-year-old Australian from the Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe team. Gal Glivar was 70th on his debut in the world series with the same time.
