Just like in 2024, Australian Sam Welsford (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) won the opening stage of the Australian Tour Down Under, the first WorldTour race of this cycling season. Welsford was faster than the British Matthew Brennan (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) and Matthew Walls (Groupama-FDJ) in a mass sprint on the streets of Gumeracha. Simon Dehairs (Alpecin-Deceuninck) was the first Belgian to finish sixth.
