Raptors Give Coach Darko Rajakovic Multi-Year Extension
Darko Rajakovic earned the extension after guiding Toronto to a 46-36 season and a seven-game playoff series, the team said.
On Thursday, the Toronto Raptors announced a multi-year contract extension with head coach Darko Rajakovic. The move secures leadership for the franchise as it builds on a successful 2025-26 campaign.
Hired in 2023 to replace Nick Nurse, Rajakovic endured two losing seasons before guiding the Raptors to a 46-36 record this past year. The team reached the postseason for the first time since 2022.
General manager Bobby Webster cited Rajakovic's "strong development philosophy" and team-first culture as key drivers for the extension. The coach holds a 101-145 record over three seasons and finished 10th in NBA Coach of the Year voting.
Aiming for an NBA Championship, the Raptors recently acquired superstar Kawhi Leonard from the Los Angeles Clippers. This trade pairs Leonard with All-Stars Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram to bolster the roster.
Rajakovic expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing his commitment to "continuing to build and win with the Raptors." He aims to keep growing the team daily as they reach for their goal of an NBA championship.
