Toronto police officer arrested after “unlawfully” accessing police databases
Police say Constable Rifat Hassan accessed private databases multiple times and will appear in court in July.
On Tuesday, Toronto Police Service officials arrested Constable Rifat Hassan and charged him with unauthorized use of a computer. Hassan was suspended without pay following the investigation.
Hassan has served with the force for about 10 months, making him a relatively new officer when the allegations emerged against him.
Investigators allege Hassan accessed "private police databases on multiple occasions between June and December 2025" without authorization, according to police.
Hassan is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in July to face the charges. The court appearance will determine next steps in the legal process.
Police stated this arrest is not related to Project South, the high-profile organized crime investigation that led to charges against seven officers and one retired officer.
