Tõnu Kaljuste told the program "Heli nälg" that his gymnast mother started taking him to various sports clubs at a very early age, and so he went through ballet, figure skating, volleyball, and tennis training. However, his father put his son to study piano with Veera Lensin, and according to Kaljuste, music became his life's path.
