Key border crossing between Argentina and Chile reopens after weather closure
BUENOS AIRES – An international crossing in the Andes mountain range that connects Argentina with Chile reopened on Tuesday after being closed for a record 34 days due to heavy snowfall and strong winds during the El Niño phenomenon.
This corridor of the Andes mountain range unites the cities of Santiago and Mendoza, is a fundamental route for food supply and bilateral trade.
The corridor linking Chile and Argentina will operate between 08:00 and 20:00 hours.
The authorities of both countries agreed to resume operations, although for the time being transit will be available only for cargo trucks
The decision, communicated by the biministro Alvarado, will be implemented on Tuesday, August 18, from 08.00 to 8 p.m.
