Toddler killed in southwest Calgary crash
- On Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, a two-year-old toddler in a stroller was struck around 4:30 p.m. at Horton Road S.W. and Hull Avenue S.W., by Macleod Trail, and later died at Rockyview Hospital while neither parent was injured.
- A westbound Jeep Cherokee turned south into the intersection, striking a stroller; the driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and is cooperating as Calgary Police Service investigators examine environmental and crosswalk factors.
- First responders rushed the child to Rockyview Hospital, with police blocking intersections while the black Jeep appeared lifted and two adults pushing the stroller were not injured.
- Amid a rise in local fatalities, Calgary Police Service acting Insp. Mike Anderson called the child's death an 'absolute tragedy,' as the city recorded five fatal collisions this year and last year hit a 10-year high of 15 pedestrian deaths.
- Authorities urged witnesses to call 403-266-1234 and said it will take time to determine charges as the investigation continues.
