Time magazine to launch Canadian version with plans for local staff and office
The new edition will publish one print issue a year and quarterly digital covers, with a Canadian office and 10 staff members.
- On Thursday, the 103-year-old American magazine Time announced a licensed Canadian edition in partnership with Toronto-based ArtsHouse Media Group, combining original Canadian reporting with global content.
- ArtsHouse founder Mo Ghoneim said the publication will launch with a Toronto office staffed by six full-time and four part-time employees, producing annual print editions and quarterly digital covers.
- The launch coincides with strained Canada-U.S. relations marked by trade pact uncertainty and annexation threats involving President Donald Trump, though Ghoneim looks forward to "Connecting Canadian stories and perspectives to audiences around the world."
- Canadians have recently appeared in the magazine, including Prime Minister Mark Carney and Hamilton-born NBA star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, with coverage aimed at "Highlighting the people and issues shaping Canada."
- Time CEO Jessica Sibley said the expansion marks the next expression of the brand's mission; the company reaches more than 100 million people globally across its platforms.
