On 23 June 2023, one of Russia's most bizarre and reminiscent war-time events, the mutiny of Eugenia Prigozhin and his MER Wagner, began, preceded by a long conflict between Prigozhin and then Defence Minister Sergei Schoygou, and the leader of MER accused the head of the Ministry of Defence of ill-supplying the front, where the Wagners played a significant role at the time.
For a few hours, it seemed that the Russian regime was under unprecedented pressure. But the Wagner rebellion ultimately transformed the mercenary formation itself. Meduza collected testimonies from those who participated in it.
