Three Men Jailed for 15 Years 6 Months After Richmond Jewellery Raid
CCTV, forensic analysis and a recovered vehicle helped police identify the trio after they stole £225,000 in jewellery, investigators said.
- On Thursday, July 30, three men were sentenced at Kingston Crown Court for a January 31 smash-and-grab robbery in Richmond, receiving a combined 15-and-a-half-year sentence.
- Two masked men used a sledgehammer to smash the window of Gregory, a jewellery store in Richmond, stealing £225,000 worth of diamond and gold items before fleeing toward Richmond Green.
- Deniz Mehmet, 28, received five years; Robert Clarke, 50, was sentenced to six years and six months; and Lee Ramsey, 46, was jailed for five years and three months. All pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob.
- The Flying Squad identified the suspects during simultaneous raids across Essex. Detective Superintendent Dan Mitchell stated, "The groups responsible should be under no illusion – we will pursue you relentlessly and hold you to account."
- Local residents claim filming of the television show Ted Lasso has made the area around Richmond Green a 'soft target' for thieves, with some alleging the production has attracted unwanted criminal attention to the affluent neighbourhood.
