Northwestern Mutual's AI Institute Expands, Adding 3 New Partners in Wisconsin
Three new Wisconsin academic partners join NMDSI to enhance AI and data science education, contributing to over 100 applied student research projects since 2023.
- On Feb. 12, 2026, the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute announced an expansion to add Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and Waukesha County Technical College as partners.
- Since its 2018 formation, NMDSI has expanded to include Medical College of Wisconsin, MSOE, and WCTC, aiming to accelerate regional AI talent development through collaboration, leaders said.
- MCW will contribute by sharing its data science curricula, WCTC will provide hands-on learning through its Applied AI Lab, and MSOE will explore access to its Rosie supercomputer to enhance NMDSI resources.
- Leaders expect the move to develop local AI talent and enhance workforce skills, as Amy Pechacek said it creates multiple pathways into AI jobs.
- Looking beyond the announcement, NMDSI's prior work includes completing over 100 semester-long applied AI and data science student research projects since fall 2023 and providing seed funding and scholarships, positioning the region as a national hub.
