Thousands Remain without Power Despite Storm Boelo Recovery Efforts Across Yorkshire
Electricity North West said 2,682 properties in north and west Cumbria were still without electricity as crews worked through damage from 70mph winds.
Engineers restored power to 97 per cent of customers affected by Storm Boelo across the North West and Cumbria, leaving around 4,400 properties still without electricity on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
Weekend winds reaching 78mph caused widespread damage to power networks and infrastructure, prompting The Met Office to issue 'danger to life' warnings as severe weather battered Cumbria and Lancashire.
Almost 140,000 customers suffered power cuts since the storm hit, with Electricity North West recording more than 250 separate instances of damage across its network in the worst-hit locations including Kendal and Whitehaven.
Barrow AFC's weekend fixture against Forest Green Rovers was abandoned after 14 minutes due to deteriorating conditions. Lancashire County Council confirmed most recycling centres are now open, except Skelmersdale HWRC, which remains closed due to fallen trees and electricity loss.
Another Met Office yellow weather warning is in place for the North West from 6pm today until 3am Wednesday, with forecasters warning of potential gusts between 50mph and 60mph in exposed locations.
