Over 112,000 Bottles of Extra-Strength Acetaminophen Sold by Amazon Recalled

Customers reported discolored tablets, prompting Aurobindo Pharma USA to recall 500-milligram caplets sold through Amazon, the FDA said.

  • On September 18, Aurobindo Pharma USA Inc. initiated a voluntary recall of nearly 113,000 bottles of Amazon-branded 500mg Extra Strength Acetaminophen caplets sold through Amazon.
  • Consumer reports of a "brown surface on tablets" prompted the manufacturer to issue the recall. The Food and Drug Administration recently featured it in its weekly enforcement report.
  • Affected products include 200-count, 500-count, and 1,000-count bottles with lot numbers ACD125040A and ACD124036A carrying expiration dates ranging from September 30, 2027, through February 29, 2028.
  • While the FDA has not yet assigned a health risk classification, Amazon is coordinating the recall with Aurobindo. Customers should contact Amazon customer service for a remedy.
  • Last year, Aurobindo recalled 325-milligram Acetaminophen Tablets sold on Amazon due to pill discoloration. In 2022, the company also recalled more than 160,000 bottles of acetaminophen for child-resistant packaging issues.
