This state dropped its gas tax; it now has the lowest prices in the country
AAA data shows Georgia’s average regular gas price at $3.802 a gallon, 59 cents below the national average after a 60-day tax suspension.
On Friday, Georgia overtook Oklahoma as the cheapest state for gas in the United States after Gov. Brian Kemp signed a bill temporarily suspending the state's gas tax for a 60-day period.
The measure eliminated a 33-cent excise tax on gasoline and a 37-cent excise tax on diesel, revenue typically used to repair highways and roads across the Peach State.
Data from the American Automobile Association shows the average cost of regular gas in Georgia was $3.802, which is 59 cents lower than the national average of $4.392.
California averages rose above $6 per gallon, while four western states—Washington, Hawaii, Oregon, and Nevada—all saw averages over $5, underscoring the regional price disparity.
Despite the suspension, gas prices in Georgia have only dropped four cents since Kemp signed the bill, as the state has seen an overall price increase since the start of the Iran War.
