So Many New Meta Glasses: Muse AI Everywhere, and Ray-Bans Without a Camera
On Wednesday at Meta Connect, CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the $1,299 Meta VR Glasses, a lightweight headset arriving in spring 2027 designed to rival Apple's Vision Pro.
To achieve a lightweight 100-gram design, Meta offloaded computing to a 300-gram 'puck' connected via cable, prioritizing wearability over the bulkier Vision Pro's integrated approach.
The glasses feature 5K micro-OLED displays capable of 120Hz, offering what Meta says is "great" text legibility, while hand and eye-tracking controls eliminate the need for handheld controllers.
Meta VP of Product Angela Chang positioned the glasses as a "general device" for mainstream users beyond gamers, while Meta also introduced Hearing Enhancement, an FDA-cleared hearing aid feature.
Google is developing a competing device, Project Aura, in partnership with Xreal, set to debut later this year as the industry increasingly prioritizes lighter form factors over traditional VR headsets.
