The hospitalized babies in Spain were on average four months and were already high. Cereal toxin was identified in baby formula lots in several European countries.
The health authorities have informed the ECDC of the detection in Spain of 41 cases in infants with gastrointestinal symptoms after consuming infant formulas removed due to possible contamination with Bacillus cereus cereus cerelide toxin, registered in ten autonomous communities; the majority presented vomiting and diarrhoea and 13 required hospitalization, although they all evolved favorably.
