Daily Memo: Drone Attack in Russia, US-Brazil Talks
The strike damaged equipment and forced the control center to suspend work, leaving at least 14,000 passengers stuck, officials said.
On Friday morning, a Ukrainian drone crashed into the regional air traffic control center in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, forcing authorities to suspend operations at more than a dozen airports across southern Russia.
The Defense Ministry reported intercepting more than 260 Ukrainian drones across Russia early Friday, with some striking industrial sites as far as Perm, despite a unilateral Russian ceasefire announced for May 8-10.
At least 14,000 passengers remained stranded due to cancellations, and Transportation Minister Andrey Nikitin requested that airlines coordinate with Russian Railways and the Unified Transportation Directorate for alternative transit.
President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed Ukrainian drones struck energy infrastructure in Yaroslavl, located 434 miles from the border, and stated Ukraine will continue responding to Russian strikes.
Meanwhile, the Defense Ministry registered 1,365 violations by Ukraine since midnight, while Zelensky reported his military recorded 850 Russian strikes, illustrating the conflict's intensity despite the ceasefire.
