Ex-Barcelona, Croatia Star Rakitić Retires
CROATIA, JUL 7 – Oleksandr Usyk signals the nearing conclusion of his boxing career as he reflects on limited time left to compete professionally, marking a significant phase in his life.
Ivan Rakitić, a Croatian midfielder born in Switzerland in 1988, revealed this week that he is ending his professional playing career at the age of 37.
Rakitić retired after a successful career spanning clubs Schalke 04, Sevilla, Barcelona, a Saudi league spell, and finishing at HNK Hajduk Split in Croatia.
He won 13 trophies with Barcelona including the 2015 treble and scored in the 2015 Champions League final against Juventus in Berlin.
Rakitić earned 106 caps for Croatia, participated in the 2018 World Cup final, secured two UEFA Europa League titles with Sevilla, and expressed deep gratitude for the game, acknowledging how much it had enriched his life beyond expectations.
Following retirement, Rakitić plans to join Hadjuk Split's leadership and cherish football from a new perspective, reflecting on a career full of achievements and family.
The Croatian international is leaving a career for 20 years in which he won the League of Champions, with the Barcelona FC, and two European Leagues, one in front of the Benfia.
