Honda Insight Reborn as Chinese Electric SUV, Australian Plans Unclear
The all-electric Insight EV offers a WLTC range exceeding 310 miles and features a 200 hp motor, marking Honda’s EV strategy shift with China-developed tech.
- On Thursday, Honda unveiled the Insight in Japan and confirmed it will return this spring as an all-electric crossover SUV, with reservations opening on March 19 and sales in spring 2026.
- After being discontinued following the 2022 model year, the Insight nameplate evolved from a 2-seat hatchback to a 4-door sedan and is now based on the Dongfeng Honda e: NS2 crossover.
- Honda says the drivetrain includes a single front-mounted electric motor with Active Sound Control and four driving modes , while the cabin features a 12.83 central touchscreen and a 9.43 driver cluster.
- Because the Insight relies on China-JV tech, Honda says it won't be offered in the United States, while preparing separate 0 Series EVs at its EV Hub in Ohio later this year.
- Honda's range claim uses the WLTC cycle, and the e: NS2 posts 339 miles on the CLTC from a 68.8 kWh battery, about 240 EPA miles, suggesting WLTC may convert lower.
