Germany is going through a complex case of “anniversary” this year, historians comment. The public space is flooded with articles, books and documentaries marking the centenary of the 1923 hyperinflation and looking at the causes and effects of the then collapse of the brand (the currency of what was, at the time, the young Weimar Republic). The commemoration has even reached TikTok, where it is a topic of debate among Gen Z youth.
