Boston-bound plane carrying six people goes missing after ‘losing contact’ with FAA
Coast Guard air and surface crews are searching for the aircraft, which had six people aboard and lost contact early Saturday, officials said.
On Saturday morning, the United States Coast Guard began searching for a Gulfstream G100 medical transfer jet carrying six people that lost contact with the Federal Aviation Administration while flying from Bermuda to Massachusetts.
The search is currently focused "off the coast of Nantucket," according to the Coast Guard Northeast District. Bermuda, the flight's origin, is a British overseas territory about 650 miles from North Carolina.
Resources involved include an HC-144 aircraft and an MH-60 helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod, alongside a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat from Station Brant Point and the USCGC William Sparling, a Fast Response Cutter.
At about 2 a.m. Saturday, the FAA notified its command center that it lost contact with the jet, identified with tail number CGRJP. Officials have not released details regarding the occupants.
Search efforts remain ongoing as the Coast Guard works to locate the missing aircraft, with the agency stating it will provide more information as it becomes available.
