A total of 154 people have been killed and 705 injured in road accidents across Thailand during the first four days of the “seven dangerous days” of Songkran holiday travel, with Bangkok recording the highest cumulative number of fatalities, authorities said on Tuesday.
During the "7 Dangerous Days" of the Songkran Festival 2026, on day 4, there have already been 51 fatalities. The leading causes of accidents are speeding and drunk driving. Motorcycles are the most frequently involved type of vehicle in accidents.

It’s lack of enforcement. I remember working in a club in Canberra Australia when they bought in Random Breath Testing in the eighties. The club patronage dropped by 60-70%, particularly on the busy nights. Presumably people drunk drove regularly up till this time even though they knew the consequences. And yes, I was a drink driver in those days.
