The president of the Senate, the 'popular' Pedro Rollán, does not intend to expand the use of co-official languages in the Upper House, which is currently limited to debates in plenary, claiming that Spanish is a language that "unites all", although he has recalled that there is currently a proposal of the independentist formations to universalize Catalan, Galician and Basque.
The incorporation of co-official languages into the EU generates rejection in European capitals on political, historical, legal, economic and opportunity grounds.
The EPRS reserved document highlights this contradiction of the government as an "objective" difficulty in officialising Catalan, Galician and Basque in the EU. More information: A reserved report from the Eurocamera warns: making Catalan official leads to an EU with 75 languages.
