Economic slump: number of unemployed falls only slightly in March

The spring recovery is as weak as it has been for a long time: almost three million people are still registered as unemployed. This is shown by figures from the Federal Employment Agency. In addition, demand for labour is falling.

The number of people without a job in Hamburg remained almost unchanged in March compared to the previous month. Accordingly, the unemployment rate remains at 8.3 percent. Usually, however, the rate falls in March because seasonal work starts.

The weak economy continues to be felt in the labour market, and the start of the spring recovery is as weak as it has been for a long time.

Unemployment fell in the Nordhorn Employment Agency (Grafschaft Bentheim and Emsland) in March 2025. According to the Employment Agency, 10,102 people were registered as unemployed in the district — 227 fewer people (2 percent) than in February, but 905 people or 10 percent more than a year ago.
