9 Men Go on Trial in England Accused of Sexually Assaulting Woman Drugged by Husband
Police recovered more than 1 million abuse images from a phone as prosecutors say the husband invited other men into the assaults.
On Monday, nine men appeared at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court to face trial for sexual offenses against a woman, with all nine defendants denying the charges.
Police launched the investigation in October 2025 after undercover journalists infiltrated a Telegram group where the husband, who pleaded guilty in September, described drugging his wife for over 20 years.
Investigators seized a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone containing over one million photographs and videos of the abuse, which Prosecutor Louise Oakley KC described as a "confession booth" to the crimes.
While the husband awaits sentencing, the nine defendants maintain their innocence regarding rape and conspiracy charges as jurors heard the victim had been in a 44-year relationship with him.
Prosecutors said the trial is expected to continue for six weeks as the court examines the defendants' varying knowledge; defense counsel referenced "what happened to the guy in France" during evidence discussions.
The husband filmed and shared photos and videos online and on various apps, "with other men with the same perceptions" - Over 1 million photos and videos show the abuse
