A new EU budget proposal is supposed to "bridge the many differences" between EU member states. But just hours after the proposal was presented, several European capitals are throwing it out the window.
There are plans for cuts in foreign and development policy, and agriculture is spared. Minister Bauer does not go far enough.
The Netherlands will not agree to the proposal for the EU multiannual budget. Minister Eelco Heinen (Finance) stated this in a response. The European Parliament also considers the new proposal for the EU multiannual budget (2028-2034), presented by the Irish Presidency on Saturday, unacceptable. The Parliament will only formally participate in negotiations once an agreement has been reached by the EU countries.

The Netherlands is wiping the floor with an alternative plan for the EU budget. VVD Minister Eelco Heinen (Finance) is unyielding: "We are sending the proposal back immediately."
