In Mersin, the emergence of green sea turtles, an endangered species protected by international agreements, has been completed. Approximately 100,000 hatchlings emerged from their eggs in the city and made their way to the blue waters of the Mediterranean. Dr. Mahmut Ergene, who monitored the hatchings, said, "We can say that approximately 100,000 sea turtle hatchlings have reached the sea in Mersin this year."
The sea turtle nesting season has ended in Mersin; approximately 100,000 hatchlings have made their way to the sea across the city. While 138 nests were identified on Davultepe beach, approximately 10,000 hatchlings reached the sea from there; the decrease in the number of nests was considered a natural part of the cycle.
