The update allows PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers to stream select digital PS5 games directly from the cloud with new UI, 3D audio, and security features.
- On November 5, Sony updated the PlayStation Portal to stream PS5 games directly from the cloud, launching cloud streaming out of Beta with a November 6 local release.
- Following the Portal's November 2023 launch, Sony promised the cloud streaming update in November 2024 after about a year of testing.
- The update adds a revamped UI with three tabs for remote play, cloud streaming and search plus in‑menu purchasing, 3D audio, passcode security and a Network Status Screen.
- As a result, the PlayStation Portal can now operate without a PS5 but requires a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, offering a growing list of owned digital PS5 titles to stream.
- Looking ahead, Sony uses the PlayStation Portal as a UI testbed while Mark Cerny recently confirmed next-gen hardware plans, and Sony recommends internet speeds of at least 15 megabytes per second.
