The latest on Hank Brown’s injury, Iowa’s quarterback situation and Jeremy Hecklinski’s ‘fresh start’
Backup Jeremy Hecklinski outplayed Brown in limited snaps as Iowa weighs its quarterback options before facing Washington.
Iowa quarterback Hank Brown's availability for Friday's game at Washington is in doubt after suffering a mild AC joint sprain during Saturday's loss to Ohio State.
During the third quarter, Ohio State's 302-pound defensive lineman John Walker landed on Brown, knocking him from the game; backup Jeremy Hecklinski replaced him, completing 5-of-5 passes for 67 yards and leading Iowa's only touchdown drive.
Head coach Kirk Ferentz said, "There's no downside to having two good players," emphasizing the decision hinges on whether Brown can "go physically" by kickoff.
Brown said, "I'd say there's definitely still a little bit of a question, for sure," while undergoing intensive treatment in the training room to prepare for the Seattle road game.
Iowa faces Washington's dual-threat quarterback Demond Williams Jr., who has completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns this season; kickoff is Friday at 8 p.m. on Fox or FS1.
