Spain announces ban on evictions after protests over 87-year-old woman’s removal from flat
MADRID - Spain’s coalition government has approved new housing measures following protests over the country’s housing crisis, sparked by the eviction of an 87-year-old woman from her home in Madrid last week.
The measures aim to curb evictions and control vulture funds. In addition, existing rental contracts can be extended automatically for two years. In order for the rules to maintain their effect over time, Parliament has to approve it within 30 days.
